Marc M Cogman and the Dead Messengers to Record 10th Album at Pachyderm Studios
In mid-January 2026, Marc M Cogman and the Dead Messengers will embark on the recording of Cogman’s 10th full-length, Storm Cellar / Lightning Rod. The LP will mark ten albums in twenty years for Cogman, and this time he and the band chose Pachyderm Studios, a legendary facility outside Minneapolis, Minnesota where - most famously - Nirvana recorded their 3rd album In Utero with producer Steve Albini.
After a heyday in the 90’s that saw the recording of several big records, including hits by Soul Asylum, PJ Harvey, HUM, and Live (among others), the studio changed hands several years ago and once again started churning out great music. Notable recent releases include Once Twice Melody by Beach House, plus albums from Trampled by Turtles, Norma Jean, and others.
After Cogman’s 9th double LP, Heritage, Legacy, and the Blood-Red Dirt made use of a wide cast of characters and several recording locations, his 10th will hearken back to the process for 2023’s Gateway Drugs, when Cogman took a new iteration of the Dead Messengers (with new members Drew Langan on drums and Rob Leifer on guitar) into Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas. Everything but small finishing touches was completed by the five-member band during those five days at the Ranch, and a similar plan is in store for Storm Cellar / Lightning Rod. This time, instead of dusty West Texas, it will be the frozen tundra of Minnesota in January.
Storm Cellar / Lightning Rod is slated for a late 2026 / early 2027 release, with digital distribution and limited edition vinyl from Last 3 Punks.
