A message from Marc M Cogman on "Right With God" and Minneapolis

Last week the band and I had the opportunity to travel to Minnesota to make my next record, a set of circumstances that unexpectedly paired us with good people smack-dab in the middle of a fight for their city and their lives. While we would retire each night to the house on the property, they would drive back night after night into the chaos, to protect their friends and neighbors, attend community meetings, and defend their city.

We recorded a new song on January 16, and we’ve gone ahead and released it as a way to raise money. It’s called “Right With God.”

I sing this song at the perpetrators,  enablers, and defenders of this regime. But perhaps most of all, I sing it at the unbelievable hypocrisy at work in those who would claim a religious identity as the motivation for taking these actions, supporting these injustices, and defending these crimes. Others might have the capacity to forgive you. I do not.

At my Bandcamp site, $1.00 (or a name your own donation) gets you a download of the song, with every cent going towards organizations helping the victims of the fascist invasion of Minneapolis/St. Paul. We’re receiving good recommendations from locals on what those orgs should be and will tell you when we identify them.

Moreover, for anyone willing to make a larger donation who doesn’t yet have all the first four records on CD or the last four records on vinyl: give $25 or more and let me know which one you’d like (or what you’d like me to send to a friend on your behalf).

Special thanks to the hero Nick Tveitbakk who recorded and mixed the track at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, and James Cheeks III for directing the video.
